The Post To End All Posts On Evolution

Not really, but for all intents and purposes of this blog, it is.

This whole creation vs. evolution debate started when I said I was glad Ben Stein made a movie/documentary about the fact that non-evolutionists are not very welcome in the scientific community.  Very quickly the emails and comments began telling me how stupid it is for Ben Stein (or myself) to even talk about this because, 1) ‘Creationists’ are welcome in the scientific community, there just aren’t that many ‘good’ creationists who actually understand science,  2) Creation requires faith in God, there is no need for faith in science since it cannot be empirically proven, and therefore Creationists are out of their element in scientific studies, and 3) Evolution is a proven fact, therefore to admit ‘Creationists’ to the scientific community would be a step backwards.  Of course, all evidence points to the contrary on these arguments.

There have also been many ‘facts’ stated in the comments, which in reality are only ‘facts’ if you accept the worldview that has produced them.  That’s not some postmodern mumbo-jumbo, but simply a statement of the truth that we all begin with presuppositions that determine how we view the world around us, and in this case the data collected from the various fields of science.  In truth, what has been called ‘fact’ many times is actually only a proposition or theory.  Now, evolution itself is only a theory.  And, as a theory, one must accept all propositions presented as evidence of the theory in order to arrive at the conclusion that the theory is in reality, fact.

Now I can take up all the time in the world pointing to the same scientific evidences (which themselves may end up being only theoretical in nature and therefore subject to the acceptance of all propositions which lead to it) as the evolutionists and show how it supports my view of Creation in six days, ex nihilo, but I’m not gonna do that.  I’m also not going to talk about micro-evolution vs macro-evolution.

Instead, I’ve got only this to say…looking at creation will inevitably point you to an ‘eternal power and divine nature’ that exists beyond us.  Looking in Scripture will introduce this ‘eternal power and divine nature’ to you as the Creator God to whom we owe our love and worship (Romans 1:16-2:11).  The God of creation is also the God of Scripture and He has a Son, Jesus.  All our eternal destinies depend on how we respond to God and His Son.  Will we trust Jesus, the Son of God, for the forgiveness of sin and inherit the righteousness required to enter Heaven?  Or will we reject God and His Son and be eternally damned?  Click here to know more about the choice we all face.

  1. Let see what is the most appropriate word? AMEN! Jeremy!

  2. I must say, I have come to the same conclusion: If men can’t see that there’s designer behind it all, then they are too blind to see. We cannot open their eyes, only God can and He’s got quite a testament right in front of everyone’s faces. Only a fool can say there is no God. God have mercy on foolish people!

  4. Thank you for succinctly stating what some in another thread were trying to say.

Acceptance of the world view which under-girds one or the other premise is prerequisite on belief in the corresponding conclusion.

Each is mutually exclusive, and they cannot be co-mingled without tampering greatly with both of the starting sets of assumptions.

  6. Glad to see you get the whole worldview/presupposition thing-I was pretty sure you did.
It’s strange how some people don’t get that idea–maybe they don’t want to, or their worldview prevents them from getting it. It’s not a diffeicult concept.

  7. Here’s where creationists are:

The sad truth is that, from the very beginning, men and women everywhere have rejected God by doing things their own way.

If creation points to an eternal power, then creationists, who urge forcefully that we not look at creation, and who regularly call those of us who do bother to look “evil,” are only trying to keep us from finding that evidence.

That’s why we fight for good science in textbooks. Truth can make us free; creationism ain’t the truth. Believing false things is a prison in itself.

The good news? You can break out.

Creationism rejects God as an honest creator, and it fundamentally infects and corrupts all other beliefs that flow from it, taking Christians far off the path of Christian belief. Indeed, for Christians, this is what it’s all about.
